The template for the IH9 system is any hexagon with opposite sides parallel to one another; the sides of one pair are equal and the remaining other four sides are also all equal. All sides of the hexagon can be shaped, as indicated by the half-arrows. The template and any tile shape formed from it have a centre of two-fold rotation symmetry as indicated by the dog pattern.
