If you have a Psion LZ Notepad file that is encrypted, then you can use this page to crack its password and decrypt it. You can also crack the password of the current notepad on your Organiser, or crack its system password if you have access to the unlocked Organiser.
For more technical information on how the password system works on the Psion LZ, visit The Password System page.
You can only crack a Psion LZ/LZ64 System password if you have access to the unlocked machine. If it is locked, then there is no way to access the memory containing the password, and unfortunately your only option then is to remove the battery to wipe the memory, and the password with it. If it is unlocked however, then you can erase the password with the OPL command POKEB $7FD6,0, which allows you to set a new password without needing to know the old one.
You can also crack the existing password. To do this, use the Calculator function on the Psion LZ and enter each PEEKW/PEEKB command listed below into it. Type the numerical result of each one into the corresponding text box. When all the numbers have been entered, click the "Crack it!" button to start the password search. It may take a minute or two.
Note that the work is all done within the browser, so no password information is sent to any server.
You can crack the password of the current notepad in much the same way as the system password. Use the Calculator function on the Psion LZ and enter each PEEKW/PEEKB command listed below into it. Type the numerical result of each one into the corresponding text box. When all the numbers have been entered, click the "Crack it!" button to start the password search. It may take a minute or two.
Note that the work is all done within the browser, so no password information is sent to any server.
If your current notepad is password protected, then you can no longer directly access the notepad functionality at all. If you simply want to start a new, unencrypted notepad, do these steps:
The saved encrypted notepad file can not be made current again without its password. If you have a Comms Link you can however send the file to your PC and recover the password in the section below.
To crack one of your own notepad files, simply click the "Select File..." button and choose a notepad (.OB7) file on your computer.
After choosing a file, it will be loaded, decrypted if necessary, and its contents displayed in the text box.
If you don't have an encrypted notepad file to hand but still want to try it out, then you can use one of the example files by selecting it from the drop-down list. If you prefer to save the example files to your computer first, use these links: Example 1, Example 2.
